Word to the wise

If I (or any New Paltz resident) asks for your campaign lawn sign and place it on my lawn, and then ask for a replacement when it goes missing, don't say to me, "I always assumed you were voting against me."

The cognitive dissonance of that statement is so very, very strong that I wonder how you can put your pants on in the morning, much less run a village.  March of 2015 cannot come soon enough.

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — A state audit of the town’s financial records has turned up violations of law governing transfers of funds between accounts, including some that may be considered criminal, Town Board members were told Thursday.

Supervisor Susan Zimet, who took office this month, said the findings came as a shock. Last November, Zimet had defeated fellow Democrat Toni Hokanson, the incumbent supervisor who ran under the Working Families Party banner before dropping out of the race just prior to the election.

“I called the (state) Comptroller’s Office two days ago and said that I was very concerned about the fact that we hadn’t gotten the report yet ... and I was a little concerned as a new supervisor trying to fully get a handle on the budget,” she said.

At a subsequent meeting with a representative of the state office, she learned that town accounts for special tax districts would require further review.

Well lady's and gents, as I said  several months ago, the town board would eventually answer for their illegal and unconstitutional activities.  It's amazing what a phone call to the right person at the State Comptroller's Office and a good old fashioned audit can do and reveal.  Oh and the best part, this is just the tip of the iceberg.  When it comes to holding office as an elected official, honesty and transparency is the best policy.  Unfortunately, some people always think they are smarter than everyone else, not to mention those that think because they make laws that they are above them.  I guess not...  :)  Now a quote from Gomer Pyle, "surprise, surprise, surprise..."  :)

Zimet was shocked? I don't think so. There was an awfully sudden rush by the Democrats to get someone else into that job. There might have been some "shock" at how extensive the problems are, but it certainly struck me, at least, that the Democrats knew that something had gone wrong over there. Not that I credit them with being terribly perceptive; it was gaggingly obvious as a matter of style.
