Jeff Logan called the donation of a new police dog "the gift which keeps on taking."

I kinda chuckled when I read that. It seems the money is the only "long term consequence" being considered when talking about the dog.

The police dog, parades, the (absent) "seasonal" decorations downtown - those are things that foster COMMUNITY. Those are the things that make a person (families) want to be part a community.

I especially love seeing the kids interact with the dog. The long term "consequence" as I see it, are children that won't be afraid of approaching a police officer. They will see them as PEOPLE they can call if they need help.

Let's face it - people don't call the police when things are good. It's better for (especially) a child's first experience with the police be over a cute little doggy -- then... when daddy gets drunk and beats the crap out of mommy the kid might think - "maybe I CAN call that police officer to help, he knows me!"

I'm sure the dog has far more useful purposes, I'm just saying it's really NOT alllll about the money.MaryAnnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15959543978228671765noreply@blogger.com
